Psychology

Class evaluation

Honestly, psychology was my favorite class this semester. Not only was the class fun, but the class was also educational. The projects and videos were the most interesting part of this class.I really enjoyed the motivational video. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2YhPt2wYnBY The funniest video we probably watched was Solitary.

I think you should keep everything. The only thing you should change is when you teach certain chapters. Instead of talking about the brain during the middle of the semester, you could start the year off on the brain.

I think you should stick with being the funny and cool teacher of Dulles High. I feel with humor no one will fall asleep or not pay attention. Humor is the key to being a successful teacher. You remind me of Phil from the Hangover.

I think the one thing you need to go over for the final exam are the disorders because that was one of the first things we learned and i also failed that test. ;(....

Memory Games

Memory

The first  memory game I played was, Face Memory Game. The game caught me by surprise. At first I didn't know what I was doing. When I realized that you were suppose to memorize the pieces and put them together on a blank screen. (Don't judge, its been a long day) I went back and started over. I used a technique that I use when memorizing vocabulary words. This might sound weird but my method of just looking at the word, in this case the face, and memorizing always works. However, this method takes a very long time. The validity of this test is accurate for me. However, the biggest mistake in the game is time. To get an accurate result, they must start to time how long you can look at the image. http://faculty.washington.edu/chudler/java/facemem.html

The second game I played was, Common Cents. The title of the game is very funny because it almost sounds like common sense. The game shows you multiple pennies that are different from one another. I choose the penny I thought was correct, sadly I chose wrong. The mistake I had made was that instead of liberty I had some other wording that I couldn't even read. The validity of this test is accurate. The test uses a penny which everyone has seen before. If the test had used a Euro we wouldn't know what goes where. The test said that I was only able to remember only enough about an object to let you recognize it in everyday life. Here is the exact response I received. http://www.exploratorium.edu/exhibits/common_cents/j.html

Can you remember the colors that the word MEMORY had in the title?

Holiday

Christmas

The holiday that I chose was Christmas. The article I decided to dig up on was about children and Christmas. Mrs. Karyl McBride wrote an article about her talking to two children about Santa Clause and presents. One of the children started to cry because her parents had told her if she was not good every day that Santa will bring her nothing but coal.

What she came up with is that if a child still believe in Santa Claus, they also believe everything their parents tell them. Also she started to question how much pressure was being put on these kids to me nice. The child had curbed herself from wish lists, turned off television ads where toys were displayed and emotionally shut down because she knew she was unable to be perfect. http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/the-legacy-distorted-love/201212/will-i-be-good-enough-santa However, when the child woke up the next day she had presents. Mrs. Karyl McBride also made a point about the song, "Santa Clause is Coming to Town". She notice that the song is about a message as an eerie one that causes angst for children at a time when they should be taught about love, giving, and family connection.

Her main idea about adults who tell their children too be good for Santa is wrong. She believes that using the words good and bad to describe children is dangerous. Her idea is that those words will be permanently indented in the child's mind that he was bad or good for Christmas. Eventually when the child grows up, they will think that they're not good enough for their parents.

Bad child grows up to be a bad adult!
